October planting came upon us fast as we settled into our new home. The farm has been horse and cattle pasture for at least 30 years before we bought it, so we needed to plow and condition the soil before planting our first crop. Our neighbor helped us plow with his old tractor, and then Carl rented a Dingo to turn the field back down into a soft bed of soil that we can use to plant fall garlic and strawberries in the spring.
The weather in early October was gnarly!
Ziggy was happy when it warmed up enough for us to plant 1,000 cloves of elephant garlic
With our first crop in the ground, we are ready to rest and plan over the winter. Now the snow can really fall, with this season's work behind us. Can't wait to see these fields pop up in the spring!
